Event Details

This workshop will equip maintenance and management professionals in multifamily housing with skills they can use to de-escalate customer confrontations, so they may avert violence and complete their primary work safely and effectively.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to: 
- Identify indicators of potentially escalating conflict in others with 80% accuracy.
- Describe 6 strategies that can be used to de-escalate conflict.
- Demonstrate application of at least 4 of the 6 de-escalation strategies when conflict is potentially escalating.

Participants will partake in multiple activities/exercises that will focus on the following skills:
- Observation
- Listening
- Verbal & Nonverbal Communication

Meet your Instructor Brandon Mathis, Director Customer Service, Grace Hill

Brandon Mathis is a Director of Customer Success with Grace Hill. He has worked in the multifamily housing industry for more than 25 years in various onsite and corporate leadership roles, including Leasing Professional, Manager, Multi-site Manager, Director of Sales and Marketing & Conflict Resolution Specialist, and Director of Marketing and Training. His career has focused on building and managing training programs, dispute system design, reputation management, organizational change initiatives, and employee engagement. He earned his B.A. degree in Communication Studies (’98) and his M.A. degree in Conflict Studies and Dispute Resolution (’10) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is currently pursuing his M. Ed. degree at North Carolina State University for Training and Development, focused on adult learning, organizational change, and evaluation. Brandon is a native North Carolinian, a fan of good food, and he loves warm weather.
