No Wipes in Pipes
During the pandemic we've been hearing a lot about the Three Ws, but Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities wants you to keep the Four Ps in mind when it comes to flushing your toilet. What are the Four Ps? I'm glad you asked. They are:
- Pee
- Poop
- Puke
- Paper (toilet)
Why is this important? Well, during the pandemic people have been flushing all manner of things they shouldn't, particularly the misleadingly named "flushable wipes" and other personal care items like tampons, paper towels, diaper wipes, tampons, sanitary pads, makeup towelettes and even facial tissues (aka: kleenex). Unlike toilet paper these items don't disolve right away and can lead to the development of major blockages in a building's pipes and the your neighborhood's sewer system.
WSFC utilities has asked for our help in educating residents about the importance of sticking to their Four Ps. You can visit their No Wipes in Pipes website to download flyers to share with residents or view videos about what happens when people flush what they shouldn't. It ain't pretty.
