So You Want to Do DEI?
Although the call for enhanced diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives isn't new, companies are making bigger strides to implement change in the past two years. Two big factors emerging that are influencing the success of these efforts are intentionality and leadership accountability.
Recently, GlobeSt.com explored this topic with Wendy Mann, CEO of CREW Network. She points out that intentionality is a key factor that was often missing from efforts in the past.
“Companies want to do it right,” says Mann. “They want to think about DEI holistically and set the right goals for the short-term, and then they are instilling a cultural change that comes with the training. Of course, that brings accountability for the long-term to make these strategies sustainable. That increases the real opportunity for growth and change.”
Mann also emphasizes that real change starts at the top. “We feel like it is really important for the senior leadership to make this commitment. We want the head of the organization to instill change and we invite all CRE companies to sign on.”
The CREW Network has launched the CRE Pledge for Action, a document with six key components to transform the industry. To date, more than 60 companies have signed this pledge.
